Because the Council is obviously trying to get into the Brigade's territory, basically. It starts with the school but there's not enough to be done there so soon they will be making festivals and clubs and soon they will be trying to make even a better Tanabata event than the Brigade and thus take away interest and potential members from the Brigade.

Well, if I do I'll be supposed to be a mole, though since I doubt the Council will be really going into "Brigade's territory" there shouldn't be a problem. Maybe I could even manage to make it so if the Council does something the Brigade will do something else that helps to complement that or something like that. But that would be the biggest problem, I doubt Haruhi really cares about school management.

I know, but on the other hand, knowing how she is this may not be bad. She's pretty competitive so she will probably put even more effort in organizing things and such. I don't see how a motivated Haruhi may be a bad thing.

Call me crazy but I think it was more something like what she expected me to do, not something she wanted. As in, that she expected me to want to quit in order to join the Council with you.
